Getting Your Quadcopter Into the Air for the First Time

Drone flying has become a favourite pastime for many people. Besides recreational purposes, hand-held drones are used in a wide range of applications from aerial surveillance and aerial photography, to agriculture and manufacturing. While these tiny UAVs normally seem like they are quite easy to fly, they are actually much harder to put in the skies than what they look like. Without proper drone flying tips they may crash or even burst into flames!

When you want to fly your drone and capture cinematic aerial photos with it, you must make sure that you are doing it properly just like professional aerial photographers who use them in their line of work. If you want to fly a drone and use the camera you have attached to capture stunning aerial views, all you've got to do is master the basic drone flight controls. Once you do so, nothing can hinder you from flying it like a pro and using it to take high quality images from the sky. To familiarize yourself with these controls, be sure to go through the manual that came with it.
Flying Your Quadcopter
1) Prepare Your Drone for a Flight

Assuming you have read the manual, familiarized yourself with most of the controls and even attached your miniature camera, you can now take your quadcopter out to an open space.

2) Bind the Transmitter to the Quadcopter's Receiver

Hook up your transmitter controller with your quadcopter. This process can vary between models but for most low-end models, it is usually as follows;

Simply switch on the transmitter, and wait a few seconds. It may beep repeatedly, and then end with long beep, indicating that it has hooked up with the drone.

3) Bring the Quadcopter to Hover at Any Desirable Altitude

To get your handheld helicopter airborne, gently push the throttle up to start the motors and it will ascend into the air steadily. Take your hand off the cyclic controls and observe for any drifting right or left, forward or back. If the UAV drifts forward, repeatedly press the pitch trim button rearward until the drifting comes to a stop. And if it drifts backwards, continually press the pitch trim forward until the drifting stops. Follow the same procedure when it comes to roll control. If your quadcopter drifts right, repeatedly press the roll trim left until the drifting ceases, and the other way round if it drifts left until it's able to hover steadily. Don’t worry about any drifting that you feel may be caused as a result of strong wind.

Now that you know how to control the quadcopter, how about you make use of the camera that you did attach right onto it? It's time to show your friends that it's not only the professional photographers that can get the job done right but also you. Capturing high quality aerial images with your quadcopter is as easy as falling off a log. All it takes is to press a few control buttons on your transmitter and there you go! But make sure to fly smoothly, without any sudden attitude changes or corrections, if you want to produce quality aerial photos or videos.
